New York Valley is part of Home Valley Station. Dedicated cattle breeding country, New York Valley is important
to herd development having adequate water, grazing land and a natural boundary created from the valley's enormous ridgelines - making
mustering more effective.
The required culling of hundreds of unwanted feral scrub bulls has developed into an activity for guests wishing to hunt. Starting in
2008, hunting of scrub bulls is available at Home Valley Station.
Embark upon an intrepid adventure with Home Valley's newest station activity designed to thrill and provide an insight into station
life - managing the herd, the country and all its extremes, the breeder herd up close and the unwanted scrub bull.
All at Home Valley Station are advocates of animal
welfare at the highest level, and we hope to educate through understanding and to answer the questions of how and why we offer hunting
as an activity.
To ensure maximum compliance at all levels Australia's Indigenous Land Corporation - owners of Home Valley Station - along with its
managers completed and applied a thorough risk management audit which has considered its guests at all levels. Guests who are
participating in the hunt will be well briefed and guided by experts at every stage, including the pre-hunt briefing, rifle handling
course and instruction, horsemanship test and general guidelines on destroying a beast and the use of its beef. A detailed explanation
of the dangers and inherent risks will be explained prior to every stage of the hunt.
New York Valley can be shut off to in-house guests and public access at any time through the use of physical structures like gates and
large signs with clear warnings of why the area may not be entered.
The culled beasts do not go to waste. It is illegal to serve this beef to our guests eating in the Dusty Bar & Grill restaurant,
however it is normal for Station staff to eat this beef grown on the station.
Hunting itineraries will be tailored to the client and all parties interested in participating in an HV8 Hunt will be
required to provide a record of hunting experience and references.
