Home Valley Station is creating history as the first-ever Gibb River Road cattle station to open its gates to tourism during the wet season.
The abundance of callers who we usually have turned away are now being encouraged to plan their Kimberley adventure during this dramatic time
of year.
While Station staff will take a break over the month of December, closing the Station for maintenance and a well-earned rest, the remaining
months inclusive of November, January, February and March will be staffed by our specialised guides ready to unveil the Kimberley's wet season
secrets.
Operations will be scaled down to include our climate-controlled rooms only, including the 5-star Grass Castles (8 rooms) and the luxurious
4-star Homestead Guesthouse Rooms (28 rooms). Access will be by air only, as the water-swollen rivers deter a safe crossing and our local
authorities actually close the Gibb River Road to public and commercial access.
Upon arrival at our all-weather air strip, guests will soon discover the remarkable difference in the landscapes as they witness first-hand
what mother nature's seasonal monsoonal weather patterns do to this ancient land.
Boab trees in full bloom, savannah plains green with new grass and the increased activity of the wildlife both in the sky and across the
waterways and land is truly picturesque. Waterfalls at every turn, rapids and swimming holes spread into areas normally barren for up to
seven months of the year. The normally elusive barramundi becomes an active hunter, so too the lazy large saltwater crocodiles - in fact, this
is the best time to fish for many estuarine fish species.
Our days are warmer, the drinks are kept slightly cooler and the food remains gourmet at this time of year in the Kimberley. Watching an
afternoon "build-up" during sunset as cells of lightning dance across sweeping plains rivals any modern-day pyrotechnical display one could
wish for.
Guests stay in complete comfort within the mercy of nature's untamed hand. Retiring to climate-controlled comfort and a king-size bed after
dining with your hosts is all part of this intimate time of year which offers guests the chance to experience the other side of Station life in
this "last frontier" ancient place we call the Kimberley.
Specialised itineraries have been created for travellers from all walks of life as well as those corporate retreat clients seeking new
horizons as a means of motivation and inspiration for their staff. We have extended the season of our popular three night, four day Bindoola
Dreaming Experience to facilitate the wet season, otherwise please contact Christopher Fenech who will be only too pleased to tailor an
itinerary to suit a travelling couple or group of up to 30 guests.
We are making what some would say is "impossible" a reality. Our intrepid travelling guests are the beneficiaries of this exciting time.
We all look forward to welcoming you as our guests in the Kimberley during the mighty "Wet"!
